Women 1st announced today that it has received a steady flow of entries for the 2013 Women 1st Shine Awards and nominations are to close on Thursday 28 March. Now in their eighth year, these are the only accolades to recognise high performing women in the hospitality industry along with employers and mentors who go the extra mile to support the career development of females in the industry. Nominations can still be made at http://www.women1st.co.uk/awards/nominations

This year?s awards include a new category ? Stepping Up ? which is open to women who are progressing through the ranks of middle management and have shown real commitment to their roles. The other categories include: Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Entrepreneur, Mentor of the Year (male and female nominees accepted), Rising Star, Small Business and Large Business.

Jill Stein, director of The Seafood Restaurant and 2012 Shine Award Lifetime Achievement winner said ?The awards are a great opportunity to celebrate and showcase the achievements of women. I was thrilled to have received my award in 2012. To receive recognition from within my industry is something that I only dreamed about. I would encourage all women working in the hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism industries to get involved.?

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 19 June at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square following the 2013 Women 1st Conference. The evening will also see 25 inspirational females inducted into the Women 1st Top 100 Club which recognises the industry?s highest achievers and those who are the role models for the next generation of female leaders. Members include Delia Smith, Alex Polizzi, Angela Hartnett and Nigella Lawson. Nominations for induction can be made at www.women1st.co.uk/top-100.

Sharon Glancy, champion of Women 1st says: ?This is a fantastic opportunity for the hospitality industry to celebrate our female talent and recognise the valuable contribution they make. This is your chance to shine the light on our industry?s unsung heroes ? get nominating!?

Women 1st is the thought leadership, training and mentoring programme for the UK?s hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism industries. It was developed by sector skills council People 1st in 2009 after it found that whilst nearly 60 percent of the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism workforce is female, only six percent of director level positions are held by women.
